| The True Type English Cream Dachshunds actually have more variations in coloring than any other breed of dogs. These Dachshunds are Bred in three differnt sizes in Europe; The Rabbit will weigh up to 8 lbs., The Mniature will weigh up to 11 lbs., and The Standard which is anything from 12 lbs. and up in weight In the United States they recognize only the two sizes, being the Miniature and the Standard Dachshund There are three coat varietis; the Smooth(short Hair), the Longs(long Hhair), and the Wire Hair. Several Queens were to have been said to own Dachshunds and this was in the Long Hair type making them even more sought after and Exqusite. Long Hair Dachshunds A long and rather silky coat is a important must have with feathers on the ears, tail and legs. The true origin of the Dachshund can be interpreted in many different ways as can also be how they were developed. One point that is without contention is that it seems to have existed almost as long as the Smooth Dachshunds. A Dachshund is truely the most wonderful pet for a family of any size and or age. Their General appearence as stated by the American Kennel Club is low to the ground, long in body and short of leg, with Robust muscular developement. The skin is eleastic and pliable without excessive wrinkling. Appearing neither crippled, awkward, nor cramped in his capacity for movement. The Dachshunds is well-balanced with BOLD and Confident head carriage, and intelligent, alert facial expression. Inasmuch as the Dcahshund is a hunting dog, scars from honorable wounds shall not be considered a fault. HEAD: Viewed from above or form the side, the head tapers uniformily to the tip of the nose. The eyes are of medium size, Almond-shaped and dark-rimmed, with an energetic, pleasent expression; not piercing; very dark in color.Narrow Skull, refined but well proprtioned. The skull is slightly arched, neither too broad nor too narrow, and slopes gradually with little perceptible stop into the finely formaed slightly arced muzzle., diving a Roman appearence. LIps are tightly stretched, well covering the lower jaw. Teeth-Powerful canine teeth; teeth fit together in a sissors bite. An ever bite in a minor fault. EARS: Long with silky fringing, set near the top of the head, not too far forward, of mederate length, rounded, not narrow, pointed, or folded. Their carriage, when animated, is with the forward edge just touching the cheek so that the ears frame the face. TAIL: Long in length at the base with a tapering at the tip. Producing a Fan-like or Flag appearence. TRUNK: The trunk is long and fully muscled. When viewed in profile, the back lies in the straightest possible line between the withers and the short, very slightly arched loin. A body that hangs loosley between the shouldres is a serious fault. Abdomen-Slightly drawn up. FOREQUARTERS: For effective underground work the front must be strong, deep, long, and clearly muscled. Forquarters in detail: Chest-The brest boneis strongly prominent in front so that on either side a depression or dimple appears. When view from the front, the thorax appears oval and extends downward to the middle-point of the forearm. The enclosing structure of the well-sprung ribs appears full and oval to allow, by it's ample capacity, complete development of heart and lungs. The keel merges gradually into the line of the abdomen and extends well beyond the front legs. Vieweed in profile, the lowest point of the brest line is covered by the front leg. Shoulder blades-long, broad, weel-laid back and firmly placed upon the fully developed thorax, closely fitted at the mithers, furnished with hard yet pliable muscles. Upper Arm- Ideally the same length as the shoulder blade and at right angles to the latter, strong of bone, and hard of muscle, lying close to the ribs, with elbows close to the body, yet capable of free movement. Fore Arm-Short; supplied with hard yet pliable muscles on the front and outside, with tightly stretched tendons on the inside and at the back, slightly curved inwards. The joints between the forearms and the feet(wrists) are closer together than the shoulder joints, so that the front does not appear absolutly straight. The inclined shoulder blades, upper arms, and curved forarms from parentheses that enclose the ribcage, creating the correct "wraparound front". Knuckling over is a disqualifying fault. Feet-Front paws are full, tight, compact, and well arched toes and tough, think pads. They may be equally inclined a trifle outward. There are five toes, four in use, close together with a pronounced arch and strong, short nails. Front dewclaws may be removed. HINDQUARTERS: Strong and cleanly muscled. The pelvis, the tight, the second tigh, and the rear pastern are ideally the same length and give the apperance of a series of right angles. Smooth Hair Dachshunds |
